Crazy to think we are 20 weeks into pregnancy and have an estimated 20 to go. I have been blessed that this pregnancy has been fairly easy up to this point. The occasional migraine and back/rib pain is something I can handle.

We had our 20 week anatomy scan yesterday. It was a different experience for the fact it was so long (an hour) and not a lot of talking occurred. I know this is because the sonographer is just taking the pictures whereas the doctor/ radiologist would have to review what is being seen. I have been anxious for this appointment as it is the first time a provider has seen our little one since 8 weeks.

In this time I have learned it is standard protocol for IVF pregnancies to have a fetal echocardiogram after their anatomy scan for a more in depth look at the baby’s heart. It is said that IVF can increase the likelihood of cardiac issues.

We got the all clear from the midwives saying the anatomy scan looked great! Baby is on track for our estimated due date. However, it was noted a echogenic focus in the cardiac ventricle. I was assured this is common and as there were no additional concerns noted they feel it is a benign finding. It does make me concerned however I know the fetal echo will tell us more if it’s okay or something more we need to look at.

I guess you can say some more of the fun is creeping up fast. We are in the starting process of getting a nursery together. Soon it will be holiday time and baby shower time. Not long after that will be birth classes. These first 20 weeks flew by and I imagine the next 19ish will do the same! Looking forward to what’s coming.
